Arginine
L-Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid and the primary precursor to nitric oxide (NO). C-grade evidence for blood flow improvement and anaerobic capacity. IMPORTANT: Oral arginine has poor bioavailability due to extensive first-pass metabolism in the gut (arginase). Citrulline is actually MORE effective at raising plasma arginine levels. Common in pre-workout supplements for 'pumps' but evidence for performance benefits is modest. May help with erectile dysfunction in mild cases (C-grade) and blood pressure.

L-Carnitine
13 shared conditions Β· 558 outcomes
L-carnitine can relieve leg pain in people with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and treat some aspects of metabolic syndrome. Although itβs often also used for fat loss, its effectiveness for that is questionable.
Fish Oil
11 shared conditions Β· 448 outcomes
Fish oil is a mix of mostly EPA and DHA derived from fatty fish. It reduces triglycerides, but does not seem to affect the rate of cardiovascular events. It appears to reduce the symptoms of depression and improve some painful, inflammatory conditions.
Creatine
11 shared conditions Β· 433 outcomes
Creatine is among the most well-studied and effective supplements for improving exercise performance. It does this mainly by increasing energy availability during high-intensity activity. Creatine may also provide cognitive and mental health benefits in some contexts.
Chromium
10 shared conditions Β· 300 outcomes
Chromium is a mineral that occurs naturally in the earthβs crust and is found in small amounts in a variety of foods. Chromium supplementation seems to enhance the effects of insulin in the body, leading to improvements in insulin sensitivity and blood sugar regulation in people with insulin resistance. Although chromium has historically been considered an essential nutrient for the human body, current evidence challenges this notion.
Whey Protein
9 shared conditions Β· 197 outcomes
Whey protein is one of the two high-quality proteins derived from cowβs milk (casein being the other). Its high digestibility, quick absorption, and well-researched benefits for muscle gain and cardiometabolic health make it a popular protein supplement among athletes and older adults.
Spirulina
9 shared conditions Β· 304 outcomes
Spirulina, commonly known as βblue-green algaeβ, is a nontoxic cyanobacterium that is rich in various nutrients and bioactive pigments and polyphenols. Spirulina contains many antioxidant compounds and could have beneficial cardiometabolic effects.
Resveratrol
9 shared conditions Β· 318 outcomes
Resveratrol is a bioactive molecule found in plant sources such as grapes, peanuts, blueberries, and, famously, red wine. Resveratrol has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that benefit cardiovascular function, glycemic control, and lipid metabolism. Although itβs promoted for lifespan extension, thereβs no evidence for this in humans and limited evidence in animals.
Panax Ginseng (Korean Ginseng)
9 shared conditions Β· 228 outcomes
Panax ginseng is commonly referred to as βKorean ginsengβ. It appears to be effective for mood, immunity, and cognition, but is subpar for erectile function, testosterone, and exercise performance.
