Maitake is an edible mushroom, used in cooking and traditional medicine, that contains beta-glucans, fibers known to interact with the immune system and to influence how the body handles sugar. People mostly look at it for blood sugar in type 2 diabetes, where small trials found a small drop in fasting glucose, though the evidence is limited. Blood pressure showed only a trend downward that was not statistically significant, and the studies were small, so firm conclusions aren't possible yet.
