Ecklonia cava is a brown seaweed that grows off the coasts of Japan and Korea, and it is rich in polyphenols called phlorotannins that act as antioxidants in the body. People mostly look at it in the context of being overweight, and a small set of trials in 97 people found blood glucose and blood pressure both improved, though the evidence is limited. Those studies were small, so it is too early to say how well the results would hold up in other groups.
