Agmatine is a compound the body makes from the amino acid arginine, and it acts as a signaling molecule in the nervous system. With no single main use standing out, the best-supported finding is for nerve-related pain from a pinched lumbar disc, where one trial found a moderate improvement in pain. That evidence is limited, though, since it comes from one small study of 61 people. For depression, only a tiny case series of three people has been reported, so it is very preliminary.
