Shirazi thyme is a fragrant herb, known scientifically as Zataria multiflora, whose leaves are rich in aromatic compounds such as thymol and carvacrol that have antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. People mostly look at it for respiratory health, but the evidence is very limited: one analysis of 394 participants found no clear difference in cough. That is a small body of research, so it is too early to say whether the herb helps.
