Emollients

Emollients are topical preparations (ointments, creams, lotions) used to soften, soothe, and hydrate dry or damaged skin. They work by filling gaps between skin cells and creating an occlusive barrier to prevent moisture loss. NO GRADED OUTCOMES in database but emollients have well-established efficacy for dry skin conditions, eczema maintenance, and skin barrier repair. Distinct from moisturizers - emollients smooth and soften while moisturizers add water. Common emollient ingredients include petrolatum, lanolin, mineral oil, and various plant oils. Generally very safe for topical use.
